In a world where junk food reigns supreme, many have been fighting the good fight of promoting healthy snacks for their kids. Proper nutrition is a vital part for any growing child, but sometimes, pushing these kinds of snacks on kids isn’t as easy as picking them up at the grocery store.
If it’s your turn to bring the team snack, commit to providing fresh, healthy food for everyone. After all, you wouldn’t expect to see professional athletes scarfing down donuts and chips very often. Why should your athlete and his/her team do so?
Here are some tasty, healthy snacks for kids that will be hits with the whole team!
- Orange/apple slices – A classic refreshing snack that every kid can get behind. Dried fruit would also work.
- Bananas – goes great with peanut butter, as do the apple slices
- Celery sticks – either simply cut up or if you have some spare time, you can make Ants on a Log: celery sticks with peanut butter and raisins.
- Raisins – regular or yogurt covered would work nicely.
- String cheese/cheese sticks – a beloved snack by all.
- Baby carrots/carrot chips – these pair great with some hummus.
- Granola bars – try and get ones with no nuts to be safe from any potential allergies.
- Watermelon – a kid favorite fruit.
- Grapes – another kid favorite.
- Pretzels/Wheat Thins – not the healthiest of snacks, but in the grand scheme of things these are relatively healthy compared to other chips and crackers.
- Yogurt tubes – quick, easy, and tasty.
- Water – best drink after a game, no added sugar. You can also get smart water if you are looking to help the kids replenish their electrolytes.
- Juice boxes – do your best to get a brand that has little added sugar.
These are just some snack ideas that are awesome alternatives to all of the junk food out there. Your kid and the rest of the team are already taking steps to be healthy and stay in shape by playing sports. Contribute to that by giving them healthy, delicious snacks.
