SitOrSquat
When searching for nearby restaurants, most people turn to apps like Yelp for help. Really, how else would you find a Chinese restaurant with to-die-for duck tucked away in a rundown strip mall or an authentic Mexican joint on the outskirts of town?
Well, like Yelp has done for local businesses, SitOrSquat is doing for public restrooms. No longer will you have to worry about where your next bathroom break will take place. Just download SitOrSquat on your smartphone and it’ll point you in the direction of the area’s most pristine porcelain thrones.
The app is sponsored by Charmin, a company that obviously knows a thing or two about restrooms. Using user-generated reviews and ratings, SitOrSquat sorts restrooms into one of two categories: “Sit” or “Squat.” If it’s clean, it’s a Sit. If it’s not, it’s a Squat. Simple, right?
The app’s intuitive interface makes finding Sit-worthy restrooms quick and easy. It pinpoints your current location and displays it on an interactive map along with nearby restrooms. Restrooms marked by a green toilet paper icon are Sits. Red toilet paper means Squat. You can scroll through a list of restrooms too.
If you’d rather skip the Squats, select the “Sit Only” filter. There are also filters for handicap-accessible restrooms, ones with baby changing tables, and ones that are free to use in case you don’t plan on being a paying customer.
Need directions? Tell SitOrSquat if you’re traveling on foot or by bike, car, or bus and it’ll show you how to get to your restroom of choice via Google Maps or another navigational app.
After using a restroom, rate it on SitOrSquat if you feel strongly about it one way or the other. You can even write a review or include pictures too. Ratings from users like you are how SitOrSquat has compiled information about 100,000 restrooms and counting.
It’s likely that no public restroom will come close to the comfort of your one back home. That much is obvious. If there is one out there, though, your best chance of finding it is by using SitOrSquat.
